why can't we capture these moments?

He looked at the boy in the eyes, squinting into the dark chocolate that surrounded his pupils. The pride that ran down his spine was like a washing wave of relief and contentment, the first sights were to be seen and he would make the most of the emotional downpour that was trickling out of his pores.

Since the beginning, he strove to be the best mentor, the best example, the best father that he could be and now seeing the so-called 'fruits of his labour' he was able to get a sense of just how far the boy had come, just how much he had grown. From smiling, shining baby to this-- and many more moments of satisfaction and pride were to come, to well up within him to a near bursting point.

'Well son, today is the last day of freedom for the next four months or so.'

'Uhm dad?'

'It will be hectic. It will be chaotic...'

'Dad?'

'You will feel drawn out, stressed and you will break out. Girls may not find this very attractive but you must always remember that even if you score no girlfriends (and we both support you and know you will) that your mother and I will continue to love you. You may be having a bad hair day, you may accidentally get a horrible hair cut, your clothes may go unwashed for a few weeks, but always know that-'

'-Dad?'

'- no matter how you feel about yourself, you must carry on. You must be the best that you can be. Look at Tiger Woods. He was at the peak of his game and he let one trollop get in the way of his wonderful life and boom. That was the end of his career. Not that I'm saying to ... well what am I saying? No. Don't give up your dreams. Don't give up your future. Follow God, be true to your friends, keep in touch with yourself and email your mother regularly. You know you have to, she'll bawl if you don't.

'Read those textbooks. Study those articles. Excel, achieve and write those papers like an english major herself was on your tail... herself because it's hard to find male english majors. Though I do commend them. But that is beside the point son. What I'm trying to say is-- well... I'm so proud of you, son. I am so relieved that you are becoming more and more mature every day, growing so deeply in the things that really matter. I-- I love you son! And.. hey- why are you looking out the window! I'm trying to give you a pep talk! Trying to give you that extra boost of motivation!'

'Daddy?'

He sighed. 'What son?'

'Daddy, I four. Wha'sa trollop?'
